Meeting Minutes for January 27

Welcome back everyone!

It was great getting back to the meetings! We met on WebEx. If anyone wants to join in the conversation, email referencerequest@ctcd.edu.

We discussed the Recipe book we plan on doing for a fundraiser. It looks like Bianca has a link to a great channel.

We are also still in discussion about using our own poems for a fundraiser.

We looked at doing a virtual escape room and need ideas for an escape room story. We already have the Google form template for the escape.

Naomi will send out a new flyer/calendar with our spring semester dates.

Our next meeting is February 10th at noon. Please encourage your friends to join. Just email referencerequest@ctcd.edu to get links to Discord and WebEx.

Next Meeting January 27th

So we discussed the future of our writer's guild! 😏

To get our guild more attention, we're going to be posting  Facebook and Twitter posts, if you have a Facebook or Twitter account check it out whenever you're free!

(FB) Central Texas College, Hobby Lobby Memorial- https://www.facebook.com/CTCHMLibrary

(Twitter) Central Texas College Libary - https://twitter.com/HobbyMemLibrary

During the meaning, we discussed what name we would use to reference us on social media and decided on Writer Guild's Desk

For our poem fundraiser, we decided to put it and any future works under the name of Writer's Guild Outlet

And just for those of you who may have already forgotten or don't know, this fundraiser is related to the library's lending closet- they lent clean clothes for students that needed to borrow clothes for job interviews and whatnot, the fundraiser is for the dry cleaning fee as well as serving as pocket moolah for members.

We also have another project underway, you guys have any family Christmas recipes? Wanna share em? Stay tuned! It's not out of the woodwork yet but if you have the free time to write it up, just keep it in a corner for now.

We're trying to keep this club alive, and our open to any suggestions for activities whatsoever! I also may be posting random activities here so looking forward to seeing you all these next couples of weeks. :)

November 18th Meeting

 Hello everyone! 👍

Please give me a sec, just copying and pasting...

The Welcome Week Committee has asked the guild to participate in a Welcome Week Activity. The library is already doing a Splattergories game and several art contests.

They are looking for club members to come up with a fun online activity. This activity would be done once during the first two weeks of the spring semester. It would need to be for about an hour. This would be a great opportunity for recruitment.

Was the thing we needed to discuss. Though how goes the update on making the cards? Have we been given the green light?

Also as it's already been mentioned, I'll be graduating so someone will have to take over this role. :3

Hmmm.... Its been a while since we've done activities so thinking up one for the welcoming committee... How about a writing activity to get everyone acquainted? An activity where people will get to know about the things on their mind or personality... Hmm..... And it has to be done for an hour? Doesn't sound that different from our meetings. Yet I can't think of any at the moment

How goes the nanowrimo proggress? I will admit I forgot and was focusing on trying to make a youtube channel. I broke my pace after panicking. r. r 🙏 I have sinned.

We're currently talking on discord.

October 28th Meeting

 Hello. 👋

The last time we met up we discussed ways to raise money for the Library's Clothes Lending Closet, one way was suggested was to make cards and sell them, but we would need permission to do so. How did getting permission for that go?

Aside from that Halloween and Nanowrimo month is approaching. I've made decent progress writing on mine, though I've taken a two-day break from doing so. So far I've written 5,582 words which are only 26 pages, I ended up re-writing the draft and am fighting the urge to switch to my different stories. Don't know why when pushing myself to write I suddenly become motivated to work on my others as well. But I'm trying to stay focused.

How has everyone else been doing? How's your progress so far? If you're still taking classes or just now starting, best of luck in finishing.

Since I took my last class, it seems like I've been given the golden pass to graduate in peace finally. Although I don't plan on leaving the club, someone else will have to take over my role by then right? Just a heads up.

The role of a secretary is to take notes, send out emails or reminders about club events, and the like, it's not hard.

October 14th Meeting

 Good Afternoon, everyone! 💁

It's me your secretary, Bianca :#

What are you all eating for lunch today?

It's about that time so feel free to sit down and get your munch-on during today's chat.

In the last meeting, we mentioned cheating on Nanowrimo(short for National Novel Writing Month- which is November, by continuing stories we were already working on.

If possible if you guys are taking any extra classes right now, please let us know. Or if you aren't interested in the Nanowrimo writing on the weekends that's fine too.

By this time some of you are probably already taking your final exams online. When will you be free? I just wanted to say I'm free as I already took mine and have nothing to do.

What are your personal goals for the rest of this year?

Also it was just a thought before, but next year perhaps if this club is still open how great would it be if we had a short story writing contest that was horror themed? (These are just ideas)

Or publishing a book, with a collection of the member's short stories?

I'm sorry, these days I've been having materialistic thoughts such as those. I've had nothing but moolah on my mind. I've sinned. 🙏

Also Cindy had something to share about a fundraiser? I'll let her take it from there.

Edit:

In the end we decided with the option to create a little 4 by 6 or 5 by 7 poetry poetry piece. Draw a doodle within the four by six template or five by seven and sell it on the library blog to raise funds for the Library's lending closet and... possibly ourselves? As we need permission for this first, I'll update this post later on as to how things turned out.

" Writers are readers inspired to write"

Yet, I can't tell the last time I sat down to read another writing other than my own. These days I've mostly been reading manga and webtoons but I don't really count those as books.

Pictures are pictures and to me books are pictures painted with words.

What type of books do you guys normally reach for?

What type of books do you guys hate?

Discord Chat

 Good afternoon everyone,

We have a Discord channel for the Writer's Guild. For those of you who do not know what Discord is, it is a free app that you can download to either your computer or your phone and communicate there. It does have Video and Voice chat abilities. Unfortunately, I am out here in the country with some boonie-Wifi so if I am trying to chat, my signal messes things up. As a result, I keep everything to typed communication.

Here is the URL link to the chat

September 30th Meeting

 👋 Wassup, wassup?

Hope you all aren't sick of me by now. It's time to host our 30th meeting! Make some noise! 💃

Do we have anything to discuss? Hmm, let's see.

Well there's the winners of the poetry slam, also the approaching Nanowrimo month. I always did it alone when I wasn't in this club (of course I never finished TT ^ TT) but hopefully we'll also be able to have fun in this club. If we're still not able to meet up, maybe we could video chat?I missed the chance to try out webex, but there's also messenger or skype? I will try to keep an eye on my email more often.

"National Novel Writing Month (often shortened to NaNoWriMo) is an annual Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000-word manuscript between November 1 and November 30. Well-known authors write "pep-talks" to keep them motivated throughout the process. "

(The rules are to start on a completely new book so that you don't have a head start compared to other people lol)

If you all could let us know what days you all are free near November that would be awesome. Though I have a question for some of you. What's your goal? Is it to ultimately publish a book or do you just write for fun? For me its both. I really want to publish a book and get it adapted into a video game or anime one day. That's my dream. What are yours?

I'll try publishing some activities in a separate tab if we have time.

Also Ms. C spoke in the CTC club live meeting and I'm just gonna post it here because I failed to watch it.

Several sites for writers

 Hi guys,

I know many of you are writing books, so I wanted to share some great websites that you may want to check out.

Several sites for writers

September 9th Meeting

 Good Afternoon, Writer's Guild!

👋Guess who?

It's the Sec, Bianca.

So September 1st came and went. I wonder how did the Poetry Slam result? Who was the winner? Oh wait, saw that there will be a premiere on the 17 of September? How fun.

Well, like everything before we encourage members to suggest writing ideas, it could be now or before future meetings maybe. What shall we do or discuss today? Hmm? Hmm, I don't think we have anything major to discuss today, either. How has everyone been?

Haiku Writing

 Hi guys,

Bianca had a suggestion for writing a haiku since we are working on poems for the Poetry Slam. btw, see previous posts on the flyer. Videos are due on Sept 1.

Anyway, a haiku is a poem that has 17 syllables divided into three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables. There's also an easier version that just goes 3 lines: 5 words on the first line, 7 words on the second line and 5 words on the third line. I think any type is fine. Wanna try it?

Getting to Know the members of Writer's Guild.

How about creating characters bios about ourselves? Or if you don't feel like talking about yourself it could be a fictional character.

Hmm, you could also introduce on of your favorite things and convince others why they should check it out. Consider today another day of "Communication meets community!" only online 👀.

August 26th Meeting

Good afternoon, fellow Writer's Guild Members!

It's me again 👋 the guild secretary, Bianca. I'll be subbing once more for today!

First off I'd like to welcome the new members, AmberM and... Amber...Ditto, and Cynthya! Welcome to the Writer's Guild! 🙌👏 How would you like us to refer to you guys? How about Amber M and Amber Amber? Get it? cos ditto? I'm sorry that was bad. Amber D or Amber Ditto.

How's life been for all of you? Let's see in the past meeting... That's right! August is almost over, that means the window for submitting a poem for the poetry slam will be closing on September 1,2020. Don't forget everyone or anyone who is interested just write a poem, record yourself reciting it, and submit the video via google drive to  referencerequest@ctcd.edu!

Why do I feel that sometimes announcing these things makes me feel like I'm filming a commercial?

Anyways, moving on, the points are the same. We welcome and encourage you to share writing ideas, I encourage you all and newcomers to scroll down and check out all the writing prompts and social activities as well as past meetings.

Hmm, I don't think we have anything major to discuss today. What's the mental state of everyone?

How about we express ourselves with some poetry since the deadline is drawing near? We can do a haiku. Or we can do re-introductions if poetry just isn't your thing. I don't want us to waste too much time thinking of what to write and time flies by that's why I recommended haikus.

We have a new member!

 Welcome Amber!

This guild definitely has it's share of Ambers. :-) And people who's names start with the letter A, B, or C. Weiss Lady is a B. Naomi, you're out there all alone in the alphabet. We're going to have to start recruiting from Z on back.

Again, we're glad you're here, Amber.

Meeting for August 12th, 2020.

 Good afternoon everyone,

My apologies for not being present at the last meeting, I was going through some personal difficulties. I want to give a big shout out to Bianca for stepping up when I couldn't. I saw that we had some new members to the Writer's Guild and I just want to say, WELCOME:)! Additionally, since we do have some new additions, allow me to properly introduce certain individuals.

We have our administrator of the Guild, Cindy Oser. We also have Bianca, the Guilds amazing secretary. She's the one who stepped in for me while I was taking some R&R time. Then there is me. (I'm more willing to speak about myself than the others for obvious reasons.) My name is Naomi Mitchel and I'm the President of the Guild. I do have ideas and dreams for this guild and I promise you, once I get certain things straightened out on my end, I will get back to putting those on the fast track.

We do have other positions with names written on them, however, I haven't heard from any of them. As of right now, I feel safe to assume that they will be open positions once the semester actually starts.

Now, on to our talking points and reminders!

1.) As it was previously mentioned in the last meeting, the deadline for the Poetry Slam has been moved to Thursday September 1st, 2020. Feel free to add your submissions to:

referencerequest@ctcd.edu

All you have to do is record a video of yourself reciting your poem, upload the video to a google share drive and send it to the address mentioned above.

2.) If you've scrolled down through the previous posts, you would have noticed that there are a few posts where we are talking about ideas that the members of the guild can do. Some posts have been writing prompts for the members to have some fun with and some have been posts simply stating that ideas are always welcome. You can post your ideas in the comments or you can send it directly to one of the 3 individuals mentioned above. I will post my contact info in the comments below.

3.) Having actual meetings and meeting in person. As far as I know, things are still very up in the air. COVID did have a spike and CTC changed a lot of the actual classrooms to virtual classes (ask me how I know *grumbling* lol.) It's probably going to boil down to this... as soon as we know, you'll know. I do hope it is soon because I would like to actually get to meet each of you.

4.) Official Positions. Once again, we would like to hear from anyone who holds an official position. You may contact Cindy, Bianca, or myself. Once again, I will post my contact information in the comments below. There will come a time very soon to where if we don't hear from you that we will refill the position.

5.) Our next meeting will be on Wednesday August 26th, 2020 at noon. I know, that's during the first week of classes for most. It will probably be a short meeting. Just a little something to get the semester rolling.

6.) We have an additional way to stay in communication other than just the blog post. It's an app that you can put on either your laptop/computer or on your phone. It's called Discord. It's still a mild work in progress, but it has been fun so far.

https://discord.gg/p4zSbG

Once, you've downloaded the app, the link posted above should guide you to the chat room for the guild. There is a group chat where everyone can speak with each other, just like a group chat via text or Facebook. It also allows voice chats, like a phone call. Additionally, if you want to send a private message between yourself and someone else that is possible too.

(I know that this has been posted more than thirty minutes before the meeting is supposed to start, but I wanted it here in case we had any early birds. As always, feel free to post, comment, ask questions, etc. I will return closer to noon.)

What is everyone taking this upcoming semester?

 Just curious.

I'm going to be a student with you guys this fall semester! I'm taking Introduction to World Religions and Cultural Anthropology. I'm finding out about people. :-)

Plus, I thought it would be cool to walk in your shoes awhile. I believe that's the best way to know someone.

Post it: Activity for July 29th meeting- Getting to know you

1. If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?

Please pick an animal most suited to yourself, not one that you like and explain why. If it wasn't already obvious this is my attempt to get you all to talk about yourselves because we have a NEW new member! Once again welcome Ashley Marie!👏👏👏 I've never met you in any of the meetings before unlike Antwion so yeah, hi. (Hello to you too if you're somewhere out there Antwion, the guild master and Ms. Cindy 👋)

2. Write a brief journal entry from the perspective of that animal.😸
I don't mean to get all teacher-y on yah but well, I am a sub for today. So... please just have fun with this but also hoping to see something that really tells us about you.

June 29th Meeting

It's June 29th, hello everyone! 👋

Come on in and take a seat in our virtual meeting room. 👐

I'm the secretary Bianca. Once again 👋I'll be subbing for the class today. In the past meeting, the Guild Master mentioned some topics in the previous meeting and I'll just be retouching it, I encourage you to scroll down and revisit the July 8th post if you haven't already seen it.

1.  The deadline for the poetry slam is Thursday, September 1, 2020 👀, *The date has been extended! So feel free to add your submissions in. All you have to do is record a video of yourself reciting your poem, upload the video to a google share drive and send it to referencerequest@ctcd.edu

2. Suggestions for writing activities are always welcomed.

3. If you hold a position please let the Guild Master know if you still hold interest in holding it or if you can no longer due to graduation.
*as for me I don't mind filling this position until someone that wants to takes it. Should I post separately explaining all the positions available?

4. When is it safe to meet up again?

🙌

Here are some activities for today. Aside from discussing what's up above...

1. If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?

Please pick an animal most suited to yourself, not one that you like and explain why.
