Next meeting September 9

 And that's all folks!

Haiku Writing

 Hi guys,

Bianca had a suggestion for writing a haiku since we are working on poems for the Poetry Slam. btw, see previous posts on the flyer. Videos are due on Sept 1.

Anyway, a haiku is a poem that has 17 syllables divided into three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables. There's also an easier version that just goes 3 lines: 5 words on the first line, 7 words on the second line and 5 words on the third line. I think any type is fine. Wanna try it?

Getting to Know the members of Writer's Guild.

How about creating characters bios about ourselves? Or if you don't feel like talking about yourself it could be a fictional character.

August 26th Meeting

Good afternoon, fellow Writer's Guild Members!

It's me again ๐Ÿ‘‹ the guild secretary, Bianca. I'll be subbing once more for today!

First off I'd like to welcome the new members, AmberM and... Amber...Ditto, and Cynthya! Welcome to the Writer's Guild! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‘ How would you like us to refer to you guys? How about Amber M and Amber Amber? Get it? cos ditto? I'm sorry that was bad. Amber D or Amber Ditto.

How's life been for all of you? Let's see in the past meeting... That's right! August is almost over, that means the window for submitting a poem for the poetry slam will be closing on September 1,2020. Don't forget everyone or anyone who is interested just write a poem, record yourself reciting it, and submit the video via google drive to  referencerequest@ctcd.edu!

Why do I feel that sometimes announcing these things makes me feel like I'm filming a commercial?

Anyways, moving on, the points are the same. We welcome and encourage you to share writing ideas, I encourage you all and newcomers to scroll down and check out all the writing prompts and social activities as well as past meetings.

Hmm, I don't think we have anything major to discuss today. What's the mental state of everyone?

How about we express ourselves with some poetry since the deadline is drawing near? We can do a haiku. Or we can do re-introductions if poetry just isn't your thing. I don't want us to waste too much time thinking of what to write and time flies by that's why I recommended haikus.

We have a new member!

 Welcome Amber!

This guild definitely has it's share of Ambers. :-) And people who's names start with the letter A, B, or C. Weiss Lady is a B. Naomi, you're out there all alone in the alphabet. We're going to have to start recruiting from Z on back.

Again, we're glad you're here, Amber.

Next Meeting is August 26 at noon

 See you then!

Meeting for August 12th, 2020.

 Good afternoon everyone,

My apologies for not being present at the last meeting, I was going through some personal difficulties. I want to give a big shout out to Bianca for stepping up when I couldn't. I saw that we had some new members to the Writer's Guild and I just want to say, WELCOME:)! Additionally, since we do have some new additions, allow me to properly introduce certain individuals.

We have our administrator of the Guild, Cindy Oser. We also have Bianca, the Guilds amazing secretary. She's the one who stepped in for me while I was taking some R&R time. Then there is me. (I'm more willing to speak about myself than the others for obvious reasons.) My name is Naomi Mitchel and I'm the President of the Guild. I do have ideas and dreams for this guild and I promise you, once I get certain things straightened out on my end, I will get back to putting those on the fast track.

We do have other positions with names written on them, however, I haven't heard from any of them. As of right now, I feel safe to assume that they will be open positions once the semester actually starts.

Now, on to our talking points and reminders!

1.) As it was previously mentioned in the last meeting, the deadline for the Poetry Slam has been moved to Thursday September 1st, 2020. Feel free to add your submissions to:

referencerequest@ctcd.edu

All you have to do is record a video of yourself reciting your poem, upload the video to a google share drive and send it to the address mentioned above.

2.) If you've scrolled down through the previous posts, you would have noticed that there are a few posts where we are talking about ideas that the members of the guild can do. Some posts have been writing prompts for the members to have some fun with and some have been posts simply stating that ideas are always welcome. You can post your ideas in the comments or you can send it directly to one of the 3 individuals mentioned above. I will post my contact info in the comments below.

3.) Having actual meetings and meeting in person. As far as I know, things are still very up in the air. COVID did have a spike and CTC changed a lot of the actual classrooms to virtual classes (ask me how I know *grumbling* lol.) It's probably going to boil down to this... as soon as we know, you'll know. I do hope it is soon because I would like to actually get to meet each of you.

4.) Official Positions. Once again, we would like to hear from anyone who holds an official position. You may contact Cindy, Bianca, or myself. Once again, I will post my contact information in the comments below. There will come a time very soon to where if we don't hear from you that we will refill the position.

5.) Our next meeting will be on Wednesday August 26th, 2020 at noon. I know, that's during the first week of classes for most. It will probably be a short meeting. Just a little something to get the semester rolling.

6.) We have an additional way to stay in communication other than just the blog post. It's an app that you can put on either your laptop/computer or on your phone. It's called Discord. It's still a mild work in progress, but it has been fun so far.

https://discord.gg/p4zSbG

Once, you've downloaded the app, the link posted above should guide you to the chat room for the guild. There is a group chat where everyone can speak with each other, just like a group chat via text or Facebook. It also allows voice chats, like a phone call. Additionally, if you want to send a private message between yourself and someone else that is possible too.

(I know that this has been posted more than thirty minutes before the meeting is supposed to start, but I wanted it here in case we had any early birds. As always, feel free to post, comment, ask questions, etc. I will return closer to noon.)

What is everyone taking this upcoming semester?

 Just curious.

I'm going to be a student with you guys this fall semester! I'm taking Introduction to World Religions and Cultural Anthropology. I'm finding out about people. :-)

Plus, I thought it would be cool to walk in your shoes awhile. I believe that's the best way to know someone.

Welcome Amber!

We have a new member signing up to the Writers Guild. Welcome Amber! We're glad you could join us.
