September 9th Meeting

 Good Afternoon, Writer's Guild!

👋Guess who?

It's the Sec, Bianca.

So September 1st came and went. I wonder how did the Poetry Slam result? Who was the winner? Oh wait, saw that there will be a premiere on the 17 of September? How fun.

Well, like everything before we encourage members to suggest writing ideas, it could be now or before future meetings maybe. What shall we do or discuss today? Hmm? Hmm, I don't think we have anything major to discuss today, either. How has everyone been?

  1. Hi Bianca and everyone. All the poems are in and are presently being judged by the judges. We'll have the video ready on Sept 17 at 6pm.

  2. I see, I see, I look forward to what the others had to share. :3

  3. I wanted to throw out an idea to see if you guys think something like this would work. For October, I wondered if it would be possible to offer a Monster Mash event. We ask people to send in 5 pictures of themselves in costume, 5 lines to a spooky story, and 10 seconds of a video of themself doing something in costume. Then we mash it all together to create a really spooky video. Any ideas?

  4. That sounds really cute! I have no ideas... well, perhaps the story could start with trick or treaters entering an abandoned house and seeing those 5 scary people or it could be 5 people just wishing everyone a happy halloween. You might wretch if you hear me say this but I don't normally celebrate it. Still, I think doing something for Halloween would be fun and possible reel in more members!
Oooh! Or maybe someone walks into a cemetary at night and those in costumes jump up into the camera frame to make it look like they're emerging from the earth? Or they could just walk by or pose. I dunno.

    Sounds like a fun idea.

    1. These are all really great ideas. Last year, the library made a video on what happens to people who destroy library books. It was too corny to post though. I think if we mashed together people's ideas, it could be a really great spooky story.

    2. Lol well there you go! Those who dress up could be those coming to punish them!

      Delete
    3. Can we punish and still social distance?

      Delete
    4. well it could be along the narrative that if they mistreat books, one of the scary executioners will appear. I think there might be an additional actor or someone might have to show themselves messing up a book out of costume and then appearing in costume to scary their undisguised self?

      Delete
    5. but then again who'd be willing to destroy their own beloved book? They could probably make a prop out of cardboard with paper inbetween it lol.

    6. I put an idea at the bottom to see if we could do something. Wanna try something Bianca and Ashley and whoever might be logged in? I wish we could tell who's logged in.

  5. Or we're open to any type of idea. This would be a library event and not just solely the Writers Guild, but you guys can definitely participate. Or it could be a contest. Any ideas?

  6. Hi everyone. First time commenting during one of the meetings. I'm looking forward to the 17th to see how the Poetry Slam went. Nice and rainy outside...if I didn't have class in less than 30 minutes, I'd be reading my current book, gaining more ideas for my future first story/book.

    1. Hey Ashley, if your class starts at 12:30 I know we have one other person in the group who's class starts at 12. Maybe we can fudge our meetings to 11:30 if that would be a better time. We'd have to take like a head count of who can make what time. I know Naomi had that as one of the discussion points awhile back.

  7. I have a Michael Myers costume...that could be REALLY creepy haha

    1. Uber scary! Like if you took a 30 second video of yourself in the costume, then sent in 5 lines and sent in 5 pictures, and if others did it as well, it would be bizarre. Or working together on one idea would work too. Whatever you guys think would work. Since you won't be able to do the actual haunted house this year, you can really do your own thing and we can upload it on our social media.

  8. I know rainy days are such a mood! I love them! They're the perfect day to take a nap or contemplate the meaning of my existence/do something creative lol.

  9. I'm reading The Melody Lingers On by Mary Higgins Clark, one of my all-time favorite authors. I love thrillers and murder mysteries

    1. I'll have to look into that one. I'm on a historical story jag presently. Wanted to read about the 1880's very rich.

  10. Switching back to story ideas it could be a gathering of popular killers invited to a halloween party and they have to bust a move?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hey guys, let's try and see if a story trail will actually work.

Like somebody write a spooky line and then somebody else add the next line. Wanna see if that works?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Don't forget you have to refresh to move posts along.

  13. A Halloween night, trick-or-treaters come but they ain't gettin none~

  14. Is there a way for me to try and write one later on? I have to get to class now :(

    1. Of course. Maybe we can take a head count on timing of the meeting and see if our officers want to change the time. I know one other member who has classes at 12. So Bianca and Naomi, that might be something you guys want to discuss.

      Delete
    2. well we'd have to know everyone's schedules first to determine what time would be the best to change it to

      Delete
    3. Maybe send out a survey? I can create a google form for people to just fill out in our group. That would probably be the easiest.

    4. btw, Amber just popped in Discord. I told her to come here and try to follow our 24 conversations. :-)

  21. We were trying to come up with some ideas that the library could do virtually or if you guys want to do as a group for October that would be spooky. Any ideas? It doesn't have to be halloween. It can just be some type of fall thing.

    ReplyDelete

    1. not a halloween person...sorry

    2. It can be about thankfulness and can be something for November as well. Like what we are all thankful for or something. Any ideas?

      Delete
    3. Why don't you start a story on thankfulness. Your words are powerful because we've seen you in action at the Communication Meets Community.

      Delete
  22. that list is too long lol, but to start I have family in other states who have survived the covid... they are health care workers... I get to continue my education... now Im here today

    1. What are you studying, Antwion? Well and everyone else?

      Delete
  23. That is definitely good news about them surviving the virus. I have a son and son-in-law who also survived it. I'm also thankful for that and for being able to take classes myself this semester. Not doing very well at the moment on quizzes, but I'm getting back into the swing of things. Can you think of how we could use thankfulness as a program idea for the library? I've seen people send in things on valentine's day about loving the library. Maybe a thankfulness wall or something? I don't know. Maybe just throw out ideas.

  24. How nice! Hope they continue to stay in good health! I'm contuining my education here as well.

  25. My next topic is overcoming the negative inner self... the things that we have agreed to that others said about us negatively and we have begun to hate or loathed that unique quality that we have not come to understand!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm also struggling with self-love! Less so with what negative people say and more about myself living up to my own expectations and learning to get over my past failures.

      Delete
    2. Do you guys find that you have to stop negative thoughts that repeat in your head? I struggle as well and literally say positive things out loud to drown it out. What about you guys. How do you guys view mistakes?

      Delete
    3. These days, I overheard it in meditation and also felt in the shower that sometimes I needed to let the negative thoughts pass by not acknowledging them. That way they feel less so like my thoughts. I once watched a meditation vid and described the mind as something like a crazy monkey, don't remember the vid, but so many thoughts pass through our head on a regular basis so trying to clear my mind but just not thinking anything sometimes helps. Helps me at least.

    4. i have anxiety and depression so i feel you. try meditation and keeping yourself busy

    5. try guided meditation first. its good for new comers

    7. Mine came from believeing or adaptinf to what people thought about me or criticize. I do prayer, meditation, speaking out loud. I suppose when I dont fell my best is when I entertain it as if I should be in a better situation. But Im learning to overcome and keep moving forward and become better within myself and to treat myself better.

      Delete
    8. Similarly I also feel and yearn to be in a better situation so I getchya there.

      Delete
    9. Thanks Amber will look it up after this meeting ends.

    10. I hear ya on not feeling your best when you allow others negative words in. People can be cruel.

  26. I'm thankful the library is a fortress of silence, a home to those that don't want to be bothered, a safe-heaven for those with focused purpose to finish their assignments in peace!

  27. I'm loving all these topics! Keep it going.

    4. i wish it had mountain dew so i wouldn't have to go to the academic building for them

      Delete
    5. The academic building has Mountain Dew???? Where have I been? I'll have to check it out.

I know.........I'm pretty shallow here. But working all day on campus can make you appreciate the little things.

    6. its in the vending between the two sections of the building

  29. The library should have a sound proof open study area with windows, so that peers can have a place to help each other out! I know they have places, but what better place than a library. Be able to talk and go grab a book... plus the library is a better place to be

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There are a few spots that you can work together where sound doesn't travel. Like that little corner upstairs outside of the art gallery. Also when we're not social distancing, the study rooms can be good places for groups to work. Right now only one person is allowed into a room at a time. But it's not forever. We'll get back to the way it was soon. The library is definitely quiet now!

      Delete
    2. Didnt know... can we be loud though... I dont know how to whisper

      Delete
    3. Right now there's only one chair at each table.

      Delete
  30. actually using time to help others... I mean going to a physical setting

  31. Im thankful for the accommodations that establishments have made for us during this time

    1. Hey guys, hopefully we'll see you next time. Be thinking of ideas for platforms, programs, and discussion topics. Have a great week!

      Delete
  33. I really like all those ideas. It sounds like we have a lot of ideas to discuss next time we meet. Also Amber was in Discord but had to go back to class. If you guys want to just keep writing here or email Bianca and Naomi ideas for the next meeting, it would be great. We can still explore other platforms besides the blog and Discord. We can WebEx meet if you guys want to do it that way also. Just email one of us and we can talk about it. I love your ideas on programs and themes.
