June 30 Meeting Minutes

 June 30 meeting minutes

We had 5 members + sponsor in attendance:

Ari, Edward, Amare, Nick, Matthew, Cindy

We went over the dates of the college events that we are invited to. I will put up a library table for the Open House, New Student Orientation, and Welcome Bash and the Writers Guild can use half of it if they want. I'll put up your picture display and flyers. The dates are in Discord and on our blog (and in the emails I sent)

We are still needing many volunteers for the Twilight event, so let me know if you're interested. It's on Oct 8 from 3-8pm

We are also invited to participate in the haunted house in October. More to come. 

At the meeting, we wrote journalist introductions and titles to step out of our comfort zones. We also came up with 10 words and 5 feeling words and created stories on the spot with each other's word list. 

Remember, that we do not have an meeting next Weds and will meeting again on Weds July 20 at 4:30pm.

That Tuesday, we will also play Anime Jeopardy online. That Weds, Aug 30, we will have an Anime speed contest from noon-1:30pm

We had 4 members show up to the meeting: Amare, Jo, Nic and our newest member, Ari. Welcome to the Writers Guild Ari! 

We wrote impromptu poems and discussed creativity and acceptance. It was a great conversation. The poems that were shared were awesome! I hope the members will feel comfortable enough to post them in Discord.

8th Annual Short Story Contest - Two-Part Contest.  1 for Texas Authors & 1 for All other Authors in the USA. 

We are happy to announce the eight annual Short Story Contest in two parts. The first seven years were full of surprises, and great stories. Volume 3 through 5 were distributed to over 1,000 Texas Libraries for FREE as part of the DEAR Texas Literacy Program that supports Title 1 schools and libraries.

This exciting annual contest is open to any Author that has a short story to tell. Great prizes are given to the top three winners of each genre, including printed copies of the anthology, memberships, and cash prizes.

Entries are received from March 1st to July 31st each year.  Winners are announced in October.

Today we discussed about the Twilight event and asked looked for volunteers, in which Joe put a message above that describes the details better. May 11 Meeting Minutes

We met yesterday to make up for last week's missed meeting. We had Asriel, Amare, James and William in attendance. 

We voted on participating in the Twilight event on Oct 8. You do not have to be a student to participate and we will need lots of vampires for this. We'll get more details. We will have the twilight costumes at the next meeting which is next Weds. Please come to the meeting in person to discuss the event and how the Writers Guild will participate. 

We then wrote haiku's and did a creativity word game. 

We discussed how we can help with the fall Welcome Week. 

        Need anime trivia for our online Anime Jeopardy game

        Anyone who can help with a Smash Brothers tournament, please volunteer. We will try to borrow equipment from Harker Heights Public Library for the tournament

        Need anime artists to draw photo backdrops on sheets at the next meeting. We will also have an anime contest during Welcome Week. More details to come.

Sorry I was sick yesterday. 

Just a few things:

Our meeting is for next Weds 4:30 and I'll send out a new invitation. 

Tonight is Author Night 6-8pm. Please try to make it. 

Looking for gamers! 

• The fall's Welcome Week theme is anime. We are planning a Smash Brothers tournament on Monday, Aug 29 and Tuesday, Aug 30 at the library. We will plan it from 12-1pm. We need to set up the games and tournament stuff again. We will need volunteers to help, but you won't have to stay the entire time or on both days. We need equipment and I can possibly borrow some from Harkers Heights Public Library.  We need commitments.

• Tuesday, Aug 30, we have an online Anime themed Jeopardy from 11:30-1. We need anime trivia with answers from you guys. Ms Margaret will run the game online. 
• 
  
• Looking for anime artists! 
• Wednesday, Aug 31, we will have an anime drawing contest from 12-1:30pm. We will give you different increments of time to draw like 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc and the best one wins that round until we have a grand winner. We will offer distance students the chance to join us via WebEx. 
• 
  
• Looking for anime artists! We will need backdrops for photobooths. We need volunteers to draw on white sheets and color them. 

Remember that we are also looking for Writers Guild members to play the part of Twilight vampires. Let me know if you're interested.
